October 2008- Gopher Hill Festival
Prior to the 1890s, Ridgeland was known as Gopher Hill due to the abundance of Gopher Tortoises inhabiting the area. The festival, named for this now endangered species, is held annually the first week in October. The event features an outdoor concert, food booths, arts and crafts, parade, dance, kiddie rides and the ever-popular Turtle Race. All events are held in the newly revitalized Main Street District.
